Carmen Yu was born in Hong Kong and currently studying at Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) , major in contemporary dance. She started learning Chinese dance at the age of 9 and gradually got in touch with other dance styles since secondary school, including jazz and contemporary dance. Yu also learned street dance and joined various training programmes held by Crew Players dance complex and GYDP offered by HKAPA in 2013. Yu had participated in training programmed in "Teens of Colors" in 2012 to 2013 and "WuDaoQingNian 2013" organized by City Contemporary Dance Company Dance Centre. Throughout the experience of WDQN outdoor performances, Carmen was inspired to continue with her interest in environmental dance performances. She had worked with some of the well-known choreographers in Hong Kong such as Ronly Kong, Bruce Wong and Noel Pong.
Carmen participated and choreographed in performances including "Jazz Fun Day" and summer showcase organized by Attic Gear. She won bronze prize in "Open Dance Contest" in 2013 and 2014 and the champion of "The World Dance Day" in 2011. She joined performances "Ode To summer" by Eside Dance Company in Jing Li's piece in 2013, Studiodanz showcase 2015 and Art Basel Parade opening performance in 2013, and Hong Kong Dance Awards opening performance choreographed by Noel Pong.
